Eheim Pond Vac 40 Sludge Extractor is a vacuum cleaner for cleaning garden ponds. It removes sludge and unwanted debris, preventing it degrading on the bottom and polluting your water. This is best used at the end of winter and again in late Autumn.
Any uneaten food, fish excrement, and decaying pond plants as well as leaves fallen from trees can accumulate on the bottom of the pond. After a period of time, if left untouched or treated, it rots and forms thick sludge. This decomposes further, producing Hydrogen Sulphide gas. It has a rotten egg like smell which removes oxygen from the water. This is dangerous and will harm all pond life. This sludge also increases Nitrate levels which contribute towards the growth of unsightly algae and green water. Eheim have a solution!
The Eheim Sludge Extractor is specially designed for gentle cleaning of the pond floor. The performance is coordinated in such a way that dirt is picked up without stirring up the substrate too much. It is mounted on 4 wheels and can easily be moved around whilst in operation.
