Located in Yamakoshi, Nagaoka, Japan, Takatatsu Koi Farm is operated by breeder Takano Kunitoshi and is internationally renowned for producing high-quality and unique non-gosanke varieties.

They are particularly celebrated for breeding Kujaku, Kinshowa, Ochiba, Chagoi, Soragoi, Shusui and the striking Doitsu Ginrin Kumonryu (famously imported as the "Black Diamond" koi).

Because Takatatsu is located in the mountains of Niigata—the historical birthplace of Nishikigoi—the farm's physical layout is notably built into a steep, sloping mountainside, resulting in a distinct, multi-level facility.
